“My awareness is that for many those [intuitive] gifts developed out of their own personal journeys into pain and trauma. So when they are activated they are coming out of that framework.”

. . . Janet Barrett, Consciousness Educator

The Teacher Becomes the Trigger

Experience spurs development of intuition and, as Janet Barrett, points out that experience is usually some sort of trauma. It is a teacher. Unless the resulting wound has healed and transcended to wisdom, the wound is re-opened whenever intuition is engaged.

We reach out for relief from our wounds and form belief systems in response. Belief systems form a hardened framework. We climb in and operate from them. Although there is the feeling of some level of protection within the framework, it can also operate as a cage and confine us to limited experience and use of our intuitive gifts.

Daisy Dog

I think of a dog I knew named, Daisy. One day Daisy was hit by a car, irreparably fracturing her left front leg. The leg was amputated and the stub heal over.

I hadn’t seen Daisy since the accident. When she greeted me as I pulled up in my friend’s driveway, Daisy was exactly the same ‘ol Daisy. She greeted me with her usual wild exuberance. She seemed totally indifferent to now having 3 legs. She moved about – although somewhat unevenly – as if nothing had happened. She was her happy friendly self.

But that is not the end of the story. A few months later, I visited my friend again. As before, happy Daisy, tail wagging, wildly welcomed me in the driveway on her 3 legs. Then I noticed, something was different, Daisy’s right eye appeared to be missing and there was a dip where her eye used to be. The eye lid and lower eye area met in one motionless seam.

“What happened to Daisy?” I asked as soon as my friend stepped out of the house.

“She had cancer in her eye and the vet removed it. He thinks he got it all,” my friend explained.

Now I was even more amazed at Daisy who seemed to take no notice of having 3 legs and 1 eye. I thought about what an example she was for me who complained about the weather, the traffic, and sundry other things all the while complete with all my limbs, both eyes, and all my organs.

Judging the Weather

I complained because I believed things should be different. I judged the cold wind, the heat, the humidity, the presence of other drivers on the planet, and any little or big thing I could latch onto. I was off-center and triggering old wounds as a matter of habit.

Daisy’s happy personality and lively nature hadn’t changed. Daisy changed me by being herself despite her troubles.

Now I don’t know if a dog can have much of a belief system and Daisy’s life was not as complicated as mine or yours might be, in any case, her connection to who she was was always there.. heart-centered Daisy.

Reverse Engineering

Consciousness responsively created wounds and belief systems; consciousness can reverse engineer them. Imagine an old reference dissembling and old wounds healed and disappeared!

Strip away all the opinions, fears, doubts, anger, self-criticism, anguish, pretending, anxiety, depression that we are not. What remains is who we truly are, unclouded by judgment, shame, blame, and impulses to fix ourselves or others: consciousness.

In heart-centered consciousness, our Daisy-pure self, we are in true essence.

Out Beyond

The Persian poet, Rumi, was talking about this in his poem, A Great Wagon, the middle verse begins, “Out Beyond Ideas…”.  Here is an excerpt from the poem:

“Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing,
there is a field. I’ll meet you there.
When the soul lies down in that grass,
the world is too full to talk about.
Ideas, language, even the phrase “each other”
doesn’t make any sense.
The breeze at dawn has secrets to tell you.
Don’t go back to sleep….”

When intuition emanates from heart-centered awareness, we share in the Oneness of Universal Consciousness while allowing other creations: positions, polarities, and dynamics to exist in a neutral field . . . I’ll meet you there.
